It was billed as a grudge match but wound up serving as a highlight-reel finish, as Andre Soukhamthath stopped Kody Nordby in the first round.
The bantamweight title bout headlined Friday’s CES MMA 33 event at Twin River Casino in Lincoln, R.I., and aired on AXS TV.
Soukhamthath (10-3) and Nordby (6-4) were competing in a bit of a rivalry match, but the end came in emphatic fashion. As Nordby looked for a takedown in the final frame, Soukhamthath elevated with a flying knee that landed square on the chin, putting his opponent out cold.
